The Hamilton-Gibson Women's Project Presents Acting Workshops with visiting artist David Hugo

The Fundamentals of Acting
Workshop 1: 10:00am - 12:00pm 

This workshop will cover some of the fundamental tools that actors need to develop authenticity in their roles. Visiting artist David Hugo will offer exercises and discussion about the basics of the actor’s process. New beginners and all levels of experience are welcome. 


Workshop 2: Character Toolkit 1:00 - 3:00pm

This workshop takes the next step in how an actor prepares, and will cover some of the ways you can define and refine your characters. Visiting artist David Hugo will offer techniques in physicality, voice, text analysis and backstory work as examples of character development tools an actor can utilize.


Cost: $10 per session, $15 for both.*


How to register: In support of the mission of the Hamilton-Gibson Women’s Project to provide opportunities for girls and women, registration will be open to women and girls ages 12 and up until April 1, 2019. After April 1 registration will be open to everyone ages 12 and up.

Both of these workshops can serve both the actor’s and the director’s process. All levels of experience are welcome!


About our Visiting Artist: David Hugo has been a professor in the Theater Department at LIU CW Post since 2007. He teaches freshman acting and all of the musical theater acting courses. David has performed regionally, on national tours and on Broadway in shows such as Jekyll and Hyde, Iolanthe, Into the Woods, and a stellar 12-year career with Les Miserables where he portrayed Grantaire in the final Broadway cast.
He was on tour with the Broadway production of Les Miserables when he developed a love for teaching through the workshops he gave at high schools and universities across America, Asia and Canada. He left the Les Miserables tour in 2005 to pursue a master's degree in theater. David holds an M.A. in Theater from LIU CW Post, a B.F.A. in acting from Syracuse University and an Associates Degree in Music from Onondaga Community College.
