Hamilton-Gibson Productions and the Sherwood Motel once again offer a rare opportunity for area residents on Sunday, December 11 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pearl Street, Wellsboro. The Christmas portion of Handel's great choral masterpiece MESSIAH is presented as an opportunity for audience members to sing the choruses and to hear vocalists from Mansfield University singing the solos.
This year MU Choral Director Dr. Peggy Dettwiler will be directing the event. She takes over the baton from past directors Katherine Brennan, Charlie Jacobson and Michael Galloway. Marian Miller will be at the keyboard, with string players Ellen Murphy, Brad Holtman and others offering accompaniment.
Soloists are students from Mansfield University. Alissa Rose, faculty member at MU, coordinates the auditions and training of the singers, many of whom recently appeared in Children of Eden.
Audience members are encouraged to sit in vocal sections of soprano, alto, tenor, bass and sing on the choruses. HG can provide scores of the work, or people can bring their own. Many audience members also choose to sit back and just listen to the glorious sounds in the acoustically fine St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
